Safari Experience: Photo Tour
Excellent half day tour in the area close to El Calafate for discovering the Patagonian landscape through watching guanacos, condors, foxes among other members of the native fauna. You will travel through 80 million years of history in a 4×4 safari observing the evolution of the land, ancient marine fossils, remains of native people who lived 10,000 years ago, pioneer ranchers and current flora and fauna.
During the Safari will visit unique areas in Argentina, among which highlights one of the most important crab fossil sites in the world, an oysters coral and a formation containing remains of prehistoric mammals with an approximate age of 15 million years.
You depart from El Calafate and enter the private Natural Reserve “Estancia 25 de Mayo”, which limits the town of El Calafate and the Chilean border. During the Safari, different stops are planned to make geological interpretations of the area, see marine fossils and guanacos among other native wildlife and learn about the current rural life. You will have excellent opportunities to take pictures of the landscapes and wildlife.
You will visit the place where the first settlers of the estancia were installed. The route follows the course of Arroyo Calafate, taking height and, thus, being able to notice the marked difference in flora. Heading towards the Chilean border you will have stunning panoramic views of the Centinela and Baguales hills, peaks that mark the border with Chile. Back by the creek, a stop is made to savor a camp stew accompanied by homemade bread and cheese country, sheltered in the post “La Sección”, which was used by cowboys when they worked in these places with cattle.
After lunch you return to El Calafate.
